Date: 17.04.2025 | Traffic: 200+

In Huntingburg, Indiana, Olivia Regalado, 53, and 4-year-old Evelynn Lopez died in a tragic incident on April 16, 2025, after Regalado's sudden death from a medical emergency left the child alone in a home with seven dogs, resulting in a fatal attack.

Huntingburg police discovered Regalado and Lopez unresponsive at a residence on North Geiger Street. Regalado's pre-existing condition led to her death, leaving Lopez unattended with the dogs. Authorities believe Lopez was attacked by at least one of the dogs, leading to her death at Deaconess Memorial Hospital in Jasper. The authorities subsequently euthanized all seven dogs, including six pit bulls and a poodle-mix, for safety and evidentiary reasons. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of children left in homes with pets and the potential risks associated with certain dog breeds. Further, this event highlights the need for clear protocols and resources for emergency situations involving vulnerable individuals and domestic animals. Moving forward, community leaders may consider implementing programs for pet owner education and emergency response training to mitigate similar risks in the future.
