Thousands of users across the United States and globally experienced a widespread outage of the Zoom video conferencing platform on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, due to issues affecting the website, mobile app, and phone services.

The outage, which began around an hour prior to reports, peaked with over 67,000 user-reported issues on Down Detector. Users encountered error messages, including 'Error 50003,' while attempting to access Zoom's services. According to Down Detector, 46% of users reported issues with the website, 39% with the app, and 15% during login attempts.

Zoom's status page initially indicated a partial outage affecting the web portal and degraded performance for Zoom Phone calls, later acknowledging issues with multiple services. An anonymous source pointed to a 'server hold' status on GoDaddy for the zoom.us domain, potentially contributing to the widespread disruption. The company posted an update stating they were investigating domain name resolution issues affecting the zoom.us domain.

This outage highlights the dependence of businesses and individuals on video conferencing tools for communication and collaboration. The incident raises concerns about the stability and reliability of critical online platforms, especially as remote work and virtual meetings become increasingly prevalent.

Experts predict increased scrutiny on the infrastructure and redundancy measures of major communication platforms to prevent similar large-scale disruptions. Companies may also diversify their communication tools to mitigate the impact of future outages.
