Bethesda Softworks has unexpectedly announced and released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, a graphically enhanced version of the classic RPG, now available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The remastered edition, built on Unreal Engine 5, features significantly updated graphics, with environments and details recreated to meet modern standards. It includes the original game, along with all its expansions like Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine, plus additional smaller DLCs. However, the remastered version lacks Russian language support, according to its Steam page.
According to Bethesda, the game allows players to 'experience Cyrodiil anew with updated graphics and gameplay'.
The release strategy involved a 'shadowdrop,' with no prior announcement, aligning with earlier insider leaks. The game is priced at $50 and is also available on Xbox Game Pass.
Industry analysts predict this move aims to bridge the gap between classic fans and new audiences, capitalizing on nostalgia while showcasing Bethesda's commitment to its legacy titles. It also paves the way for future remasters and sequels, potentially setting a new benchmark for revitalizing older games.
